Description
Tropical-inspired treats that turn overripe bananas into golden treasures – naturally sweet with satisfying crunch
Prep Time: 20 minutes | Cook Time: 15-20 minutes | Total Time: 40 minutes | Makes: 30-36 crunchies

Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana, mashed (brown spots are perfect for natural sweetness)
- 1/2 cup (40g) unsweetened shredded coconut (no sugar added – completely safe for dogs)
- 1 cup (120g) oat flour (gluten-free and gentle on sensitive stomachs)
- 1 egg (fresh eggs work best for binding)
- 1 tbsp (15ml) coconut oil (adds richness and crispy texture)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper—these can stick without proper preparation.
- In a bowl, thoroughly mash your ripe banana until relatively smooth but with some texture remaining for natural sweetness.
- Add shredded coconut, oat flour, egg, and coconut oil to the mashed banana and mix until a workable dough forms that holds together well.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness, using oat flour for dusting to keep everything dog-safe.
- Cut into small, bite-sized pieces using a knife or cookie cutters—I make mine quarter-sized for Amber but adjust for your dog’s size.
- Place treats on the prepared baking sheet with space between each piece for even baking and golden browning.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and firm to the touch—they should make a satisfying crunch sound when tapped.
- Allow treats to cool completely before serving—this step creates the perfect crispy texture dogs love.
Notes:
- Use very ripe bananas with brown spots for maximum natural sweetness
- Crunchies should be golden brown and crispy, not soft or chewy
- Amber prefers these after they’ve cooled and gotten extra crunchy
- Perfect for dogs who love satisfying textures and tropical flavors
Storage Tips:
- Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to one week
- These get crunchier after a day, which most dogs prefer
- Don’t refrigerate—room temperature storage maintains the perfect crispy texture
- Make sure treats are completely cool before storing to prevent moisture buildup
